Cheer Competition Style Inspiration – A Crowd-Shocking, Athletic Look
Corey Olsen, head cheerleading coach for Boswell High School and GTM Style Consultant, needed a crowd-shocking look for competition season.
“I wanted to create a whole package for this team: the choreography, the uniform, the look, the hair, the confidence, so when they stepped out on that floor, they would look like they had been ten-time national champions,” he said.
The Team’s New Style.
“I had to get creative,” he said. “I wanted something different, and at the same time, I wanted to create an athletic look for the girls. I decided to add the matching stars on the shorts to tie it all together, they loved it and the rest is history.”
He wanted the style and art designs to represent a more competitive look instead of a traditional high school uniform.
“The material is comfortable for the members and the shimmer has an added pop when the lights hit it on the floor,” he said.
Coach Corey’s team won first place and he received the Innovative Choreography Award at a National Cheerleading Association (NCA) competition last month.
Why Coach Corey Does It.
“I coach because it’s a way to really bring out the positive in so many young adults today,” he said. “If I can be a positive role model and someone they can look up to, then I know I’ve done my job. I want to help bring the confidence out in them that will not only help them in cheerleading, but also in life.”
Coach Corey started cheering in high school and started coaching in 1992.
